SLA-TX Chapter's Meeting: CI Session

The CI Path: Transformational Journeys from Business Information to Competitive Intelligence

The next local area meeting for the DFW area is scheduled for April 18, 2007 in Irving.
Where: Microsoft, 7000 N. State Hwy 161, Irving, TX, 75039. The meeting will be held in LC 1 (Las Colinas building one) and parking is available in front of the building, most spaces are reserved for visitors.

Merrill Chertok: Microsoft Library Manager - Introductory Remarks
Scott Ullrich: Vice President, Client Development Capital IQ

Scott leads the development and expansion of Capital IQ's business in the Southwest region. His clients include the top Investment Banks, Private Equity, Hedge Funds and Corporations in this region. Prior to joining Capital IQ, Scott was a Director at Thomson Financial leading their investment banking and corporate team in the Southwest. Scott graduated with a BBA in Finance from Texas A&A University.

Mark Johnson: SCIP - The Art and Science of Competitive Intelligence. Competitive Intelligence is a unique marketing tool which uses calculation and creativity to analyze the competitive marketplace. It combines the features of a scientific investigation, a scavenger hunt, a brainteaser logic problem, and a jigsaw puzzle (with plenty of missing pieces). The more complex the business you're in, the more important it is to find the right information sources and analysis tools. Mark will be discussing how to assemble the right mix of tools and information to help your company understand and triumph over your competition. Mark is the Principal of Vector Group Services, a consultancy offering custom Competitive Intelligence and marketing analysis solutions. He received his Bachelor's and Master's of economics degree from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, and took post-graduate studies in economics at St. Louis University. He has a worked in a variety of positions including statistical research, demand analysis, market forecasting, cost studies and marketing analysis. For the last 10 years, he has focused on competitive intelligence. Mark has worked for SBC Communications, Metasolv Software, Blockbuster, CPRi, TXU-Energy, and Flowserve. Mark is the Chairman of the DFW Chapter of the Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals.

Rhonda Brown: Factiva - Using Factiva for Competitive Intelligence. Rhonda will present the various ways Factiva and Dow Jones Product & Services. By the end of her presentation all attendees will understand how to Use social media effectively, best leverage of internal resources and how best to make the information work for YOU when you need it, how you need it and why you need it. Rhonda Brown is an Account Development Executive with Factiva and has over 20 years experience in the information services field and the customer support area. In her role at Factiva she helps the end user to maximize their subscriptions and to incorporate Factiva solutions into their workflow. She is based in Houston and supports all accounts in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana.
