DALL Needs You Now!

Over the past 30 plus years in law firm library management or legal administration, I have seen the benefits of active professional association membership reflected positively in my employees and in my own work. We all learn to be better librarians with each job we take but service in professional associations can make us even better. Your active involvement in DALL will provide an opportunity to hone and practice your leadership skills, teambuilding, communication and presentation skills. Your involvement on the Technology Committee for example can increase your knowledge of web site design or in new technologies. As part of the Professional Development Committee you have the opportunity to expand your organizational skills or your public speaking experience. No matter how you get involved, you will increase your knowledge base, meet fellow librarians with diverse backgrounds and demonstrate to others that you are committed to our profession. Some of us need our professional association to provide us with an opportunity to gain experience in some of these areas because our jobs don't always do so.

We have reached that point in our Association's year when we need to have lined up DALL members to run for election and committee chair/membership for the upcoming year. We have had several key positions remain unfilled during this current year. We have an immediate need to fill the Nominating Committee Chair and Nominating Committee member positions. These are key positions as we look to this committee to put forth a slate of officers to serve in 2011-2012 including First Vice President, Second Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. After a quick scan of the website I see that Nominations, Archives and Union List committees are without chairs at this time but all of our committees need your involvement. Association activities attendance has been up this year but the number of members making these activities a reality has gone down.

Please share your talents and time with us. Get involved in the Nominating Committee, run for office, serve on a committee, help us continue the work of our Association.
