INDUSTRY RESEARCH USING THE ECONOMIC CENSUS AND OTHER GOVERNMENT SOURCES
PART 1:                        Wednesday, December 11, 2013 from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM (EST)
To understand an industry is to understand the context in which a company operates. This course will review the Economic Census and other free government sources that could help you find specific data, create an industry profile, define competition, and monitor the business environment. If you work with small to medium size businesses this webinar will give you the confidence to help with marketing plans for entrepreneurs and economic development plans for policy makers.
Hands-on "Quiz" will get you into the sources and using the services. Come back the following week to share what you found and discuss the joys and struggles and go deeper into industry research.

The School of Information at the University of Texas at Austin announces the launch of The Information Institute, a professional development resource offering courses in a wide range of information topics.
 
Our vision for the Institute is simple:
We believe that information professionals around the world should have a single place to turn first for new ideas, information, discourse, and professional development. Our Institute helps professionals gain knowledge, skills, and abilities in the constantly changing field of information.
In our Information Institute, the School’s acclaimed faculty will work with industry experts to design and teach short courses that balance theory and practice. This blend of faculty and industry experts will help participants gain skills that they can apply immediately in their careers based on the latest knowledge in the field. The courses further will offer participants an opportunity to network by learning in the company of other information professionals whose experiences and input are likely to yield insights and new perspectives.

The Official Board

The Official Board is a site that shows updated organizational charts of the world's largest companies and executives listed. Because it's a wiki, members of the website can add or correct information to the database.

Listorious is a search tool that can locate approximately over 2 million Twitter users. You find anyone by region or profession and powered by data from list curators. You search on various topics from business, social media, technology, and etc.
