Social Pulse

Reuters has launched the news media social site, Social Pulse. The website uses trends from Twitters account Reuters and other journalists that follow news headlines. Sectors include: Technology, Finance, Healthcare, Industrial, and etc. One key section that Social Pulse has is that they posted with Klout to track the most social CEOs and you can view their profile and access their Twitter page.

Will other papers follow FT.com?

This article from the New York Times made me start wondering how many other papers will start charging for articles and restricting access via our other channels.

Not long ago, when other media executives were convinced that the only way to succeed on the Web was to give away their content, The Financial Times played the eccentric.

In another effort to generate additional digital revenue, the newspaper restricted access last year to its content through databases like Factiva and LexisNexis, requiring users to buy special licenses to read archived articles. More than 600 corporate customers, with a total of about 50,000 users, have done so.

Newest Kindle

Amazon will soon be releasing a new Kindle that is larger and can handle newspapers and periodicals more easily. This story from eweek talks about the convergence of newspapers and digital, with hints of the future of journalism. My only question: if newstories might be lumped under a single URL with additions as the story develops, how will we cite to these articles?

Voice of Paul Harvey silenced

Paul Harvey, long time radio announcer and commentator, died at age 90. One obit may be found at the Washington Post. If you are of a certain age, you will probably remember his delivery of "This is Paul Harvey - stand by for news!" and his O. Henry style twists in the popular stories with the ending, "And that's the rest of the story."
