Resources For Researching & Tracking Patent Trial And Appeal Board (PTAB) Filings

With the enactment of the America Invents Act came the new Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), replacing the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences (BPAI). In this program we will review the types of actions now held before the PTAB, key documents, and terminology to aid you in your research.

 Less than a year ago, PTAB filings and decisions (particularly filings) were not easily accessible through most legal research and docket vendors. However, in the past year, multiple vendors with varied focuses have developed numerous new products for document discovery in PTAB filings. We will compare and contrast what these vendors offer - decisions, filings, tracking - and the developments on the horizon.

Renaming PLL

I've always wondered why we had "libraries" instead of "librarians" in our association names. I believe that our own association (Dallas Association of Law Librarians) is one of the few that does not have library in the title.

"PLL" What's in a Name? 'Librarian,' that's what!

On October 23rd at Noon (CST), the PLL Board will discuss the challenges facing today's firm librarians. The Spring 2010 issue of PLL Perspectives is full of interesting articles. The lead article, "A Response to Research and Marketing: Better Practices" by Ellen Brondfield and Monique LaForce, is well worth the time to read. You'll find yourself nodding your head, thinking, "Yes, they nailed that!"

PLL Dine-Arounds for AALL

PLL Dine-Arounds are being formed now for Saturday, July 14, 2007 in New Orleans.

Generally, the time is from 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm., depending on whether you want to attend the opening reception. For those of you who would like to connect with people outside of PLL, the site to sign up is http://www.lb5.uscourts.gov/AALL/dinearounddescriptions.html

For those who would like to join a PLL dine-around, we have one that will be going to Mr. B's, a contemporary Creole place. Cynthia Jones, the librarian at Phelps Dunbar will be the guide to Mr. B's. We can also have PLL dine-arounds that can choose to go to different restaurants.

I can place people in groups of 3-6, and those groups can e-mail among each other and decide which restaurant they would like to attend. You can go to http://www.lb5.uscourts.gov/AALL/eat.html to see a list of restaurants from which your group can choose a restaurant.

The group that would like to go to Mr. B's is the only one that will have a guide going with them. That particular dine-around will only be for PLL members. Any other restaurant that you would like to attend, with other PLL members, I can group people together, but those smaller groups will make plans among each other to decide where to go, where to meet, whether to be back in time for the opening reception, et al.
