ULC Passes Act to Promote Authentication, Preservation and Access to State Laws and Rules


Last night in its 120th annual meeting in Vail, Colorado, the Uniform Law Commission (ULC) passed the Uniform Electronic Legal Materials Act (UELMA) in order to provide a set of rules for states to follow to establish "an outcomes-based, technology-neutral framework for providing online material with the same level of trustworthiness traditionally provided by publication in a law book." Ed Foster, GripeLog author

I've been reading Ed Foster's columns at the GripeLog since it was in paper edition in InfoWorld. I first noticed his work when he discussed why the proposed UCITA act was a very bad idea, and discussed it so ordinary people could understand why it was a bad idea. He was a voice for common people, shining a light on the deeds and misdeeds of the computer and information industry.

His son, Jeff Foster, posted an entry on the GripeLog blog about his father's death at age 59, from an apparent heart attack.

ABA APPROVES FOUR UNIFORM ACTS
New Act on Organ Donation among Acts Approved

February 12, 2007 – Four uniform acts, dealing with issues ranging from the revision of established rules governing anatomical gifts to a new law that should help prevent the abduction of children during custody proceedings, were approved today by the American Bar Association’s House of Delegates at its Midyear Meeting in Miami, Florida, Feb. 7-13. Each uniform act was drafted and approved by the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (NCCUSL) in 2006.
